Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook – G59-3 Testing

As part of ongoing works for Smurfit kappa Townsend Hooks to install a new CHP (combined heat and power), WJ Project Services undertook G59-3 testing, witnessed by the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) engineer. We also configured the relays and installed GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Events) communication technology in order to enable the intertripping and interlocking technology integrated into the system.

Following the completion of our initial testing brief, the WJ Project Services team have been providing ongoing assistance and support to the site, mostly comprised of software modifications. These software modifications, along with our remote consultancy services, aim to eliminate the client’s difficulties with import and export limits. In order to improve their system and eliminate these issues, we are currently assisting with a load shedding scheme that will shed non-critical sections of the site before the DNO turns them off.

In order to ensure the consistent smooth-running of their operations, WJ Project Services are pleased to act on an advisory and support basis for the client, which has seen us make subsequent visits to the site while further key works, such as changes to the operating philosophy and the start of generators, are underway.

In future, we will also be performing periodic testing of the relays as well as a full audit of the protection setting installed into the equipment.
