Case Study:
Planned and Reactive Maintenance Support for the Core Valley Lines
Client:
Project Safe Ltd
Location:
Core Valley Lines Rail Infrastructure, South Wales
Scope:
24/7 fault response, planned maintenance, detailed activity reporting, switching schedules, isolation and earthing, safety documentation and National Grid coordination for cross-boundary isolations.

WJ Project Services provides planned and reactive maintenance support for the Core Valley Lines rail infrastructure. WJPS Testing and Commissioning engineers work to an agreed activity list for planned maintenance while also providing a 24/7, 365-day call-out service to respond to faults across the network.
The Testing and Commissioning team carries out planned maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance activity list. Detailed reporting is provided for each activity, creating a clear record of the maintenance completed across the CVL rail infrastructure.
WJ Project Services produces switching schedules and carries out isolation and earthing activities required to support the maintenance works. The team also issues the relevant safety documentation, including High Voltage Permits to Work and Sanctions for Test. Where cross-boundary isolations are required, WJPS liaises with National Grid to coordinate the necessary arrangements.
Planned maintenance activities cover electrical and associated infrastructure assets identified within the CVL maintenance activity list, including HV switchgear, HV cables, battery chargers, remote terminal units, DNO equipment, buildings and compounds
The programme delivers 24/7 fault response, planned maintenance, detailed reporting, switching schedules, isolation and earthing, HV safety documentation, and National Grid coordination across the CVL rail infrastructure.
