WJ Project Services was commissioned to complete the full implementation of the Network Management System (NMS) across nine East Coast Mainline substations. The works focused on upgrading Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) configurations to enable full monitoring and control functionality from the York Electrical Control Room.

WJ Project Services supported the North West Electrification Programme to reinforce infrastructure on the West Coast Mainline and electrify the Liverpool–Manchester route. Phase 1 included installation of two auto-transformer distribution substations at Willow Park and Ordsall Lane.

WJ Project Services was commissioned to upgrade ageing high-voltage circuit breakers across key substations in the York area following deterioration of insulation levels within existing switchgear. The programme focused on improving system integrity, reliability, and long-term operational safety.

Details:

WJ Project Services commissioned a new OLE isolation system at Reading Train Care Depot to improve the safety and efficiency of isolating electrified roads within the train care shed. Previously, nominated persons were required to walk over 400 metres to operate isolation points at both ends of the shed.

Details:

WJ Project Services were appointed by ABB as Lead Test & Commissioning supplier for the Drogheda traction substation, part of the DART+ electrification programme in Ireland. The installation integrates AC switchgear, transformer rectifiers, DC switchgear and a Battery Energy Storage System using an IEC 61850 based Integrated Protection & Control system.

Details:

The project upgraded the West Coast Mainline electrification, installing eight 25-0-25 kV autotransformer GIS substations, converting a GECMK1 building, and adding two ATFS buildings. WJ Project Services supported all stages from pre-commissioning to final testing, ensuring minimal disruption to the 400 kV National Grid.
