Case Study:
11kV Transformer Testing and Commissioning
Client:
Skanska UK
Location:
Telehouse Data Centre, London
Scope:
Verification of 11kV protection settings and earthing arrangements, transformer testing, electrical testing and commissioning into service.

WJ Project Services carried out testing and commissioning works at the Telehouse Data Centre for Skanska UK. The works included verification of HV protection settings on the 11kV feeders, confirmation of the associated earthing arrangements, and testing and commissioning of close-coupled 11kV/400V transformers.
Our Testing and Commissioning engineers completed a structured programme of specialist electrical testing to verify the transformers’ condition, configuration and performance before entry into service.
Testing included Sweep Frequency Response Analysis, vector group checks, primary and secondary DC winding-resistance measurements, primary-to-secondary ratio testing, and insulation-resistance and pressure testing of the HV and LV windings.
Following completion and assessment of the required tests, WJ Project Services commissioned the 11kV/400V close-coupled transformers into service. Test results were recorded to confirm completion of the specified testing activities.
The works covered 11kV feeders, HV protection systems, earthing arrangements and close-coupled 11kV/400V transformers, using specialist testing equipment for SFRA, ratio, winding-resistance, insulation-resistance and pressure testing.
The project delivered verified HV protection settings and earthing arrangements, comprehensive transformer testing, and successful commissioning of the 11kV/400V transformers into service.
