WJ Project Services were commissioned by ABB, who were acting on behalf of Sellafield Utilities, to work on the commissioning of SCADA, unit protection schemes, secondary injection testing and training in Sellafield, Cumbria.
The team was initially tasked to produce testing methodology for the unit protection schemes. In order to prove differential protection of the system, as well as the efficient and successful primary injection to a restricted earthfault protection scheme, we performed a series of short circuit tests and tested the differential scheme’s secondary injection capabilities.
As part of our testing services, we produced completed documentation outlining all test planning and procedures.
After testing was complete, the WJ Project Services team performed the commissioning of all system relays in line with the service settings set by the client. We also proved all signalling to the site’s SCADA system.
While undertaking the project, we provided on-site personnel training to ensure staff at the facility could operate the switch gear and protection relays. We also provided ongoing training in the use of the Omicron CMC equipment used for testing, so that staff could continue to perform long-term testing, as set out by our team, in the future.
As part of the project, WJ Project Services carefully selected the low voltage switchgear equipment used to adhere to the customer’s requirements. The ABB Unigear ZS1.2, 11kV air insulated switch-gear was used, a selection of metal clad switchboards that are designed to meet global demand as well as local market specifications.
This EC 61439-1/-2 certified low voltage switchgear has a long list of benefits, including safety, reduced operation expenditure, a scaleable design and reliability.
